Favorite Clean Protein Powders
“Hey, hey, Mae: I’m busy and feel like I’m not getting enough protein in - recommendations for a somewhat clean protein powder?”
Hey girl, hey - I see you, recognizing the role that protein plays in not just your muscle gains, but also in your day-to-day happy feels and even blood sugar regulation…hangry, anyone? Here’s a quick round up of my favorite, well sources, pretty clean protein powders.
I often mix collagen peptides into my tea, the boys’ hot chocolate, our oatmeal and more. This is a great, simple and clean protein to sneak into our kid’s foods and our own smoothies and drinks. Collagen supports joint health, gut repair and is a great way to get in some quality, grass-fed amino acids. There is also this handy version that can be tossed into your purse and poured into a warm coffee while you’re out and about.

Bone Broth Protein
This is my go-to morning protein. It’s made by a company I trust, is a good way to sneak that gut-vitamin-rich bone broth, in and it tastes yummy. It boasts 20 grams a serving, has minimal ingredients and truly has a delightful taste. My favorite smoothie is this + greens + tahini +coconut milk +ice - it has this lovely whipping quality that makes a fluffy, luxurious feeling smoothie. The vanilla is also a winning flavor.
Hemp Protein
Hemp protein is one of my more favorite sources, and while this powder doesn’t have any additives, so it won’t be extra tasty - it is extra clean and a simple protein powder. I love to toss a bit of this in baked goods or combine it with half of a serving of the other sweeter protein powders.
Vega One All-In-One Shake
Vega one is a favorite, because it’s easy to grab at Target and often appears at CostCo. This is a plant based protein with 20 grams of protein from a complete multisource blend of organic pea protein, organic sunflower seed protein, and organic pumpkin seed protein. It’s both gluten and dairy free, but has a vegetable and fruit complex mixed in for a nutrient and antioxidant boost.
Arbonne Protein Shake Mix
Arbonne also makes a great protein powder and it comes in both chocolate and vanilla. It is a plant-based and also dairy and gluten free - as well as labeled vegan. They do a seasonal flavor - currently cinnamon roll and even sell it in individual packs that are easy for travel. The only downside is you’ve gotta get it through a consultant, which means I can’t blindly order it in my half-sleep off Amazon - but not all happiness can be bought on Amazon.
